Presidential council has final say on resolutions

KUALA LUMPUR: The MCA Presidential Council will have final say on the proposed resolutions submitted for MCA's March 7 AGM, including that for the calling of fresh polls, said party secretary general Datuk Wong Foon Meng.

He said the secretariat had received 28 proposed resolutions for the AGM of which more than 10 were submitted by individual party members calling for new elections in the central committee.

"We will submit all the proposed resolutions to the presidential council to deliberate and decide at their meeting [tomorrow]," Wong told reporters today after chairing a secretariat meeting to categorise the AGM resolutions.

According to Wong, the secretariat had not rejected any of the proposed resolutions, stressing that the council was tasked to make a final decision on the resolutions that were deemed fit to be considered by the central delegates at the AGM.

"We categorised the [proposed] resolutions into several categories such as party matters, economy, government, society, education and culture. The resolutions categorised also include those passed by the state liaison committee last year," he added.

The secretary-general also said the formulation of the resolutions for the AGM would only be done after the council meets, and noted that the deadline for submission of proposed resolutions was Feb 23.

The faction aligned to MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai is pushing a resolution at the AGM that would compel fresh polls for the central committee (CC) if passed.

Last Tuesday, Liow's faction submitted a four-point resolution on behalf of the MCA Integrity Restoring Taskforce which, among other objectives, seeks delegates to vote for the dissolution of the CC and hold fresh polls.

The faction is also seeking to amend Article 46 of the party's constitution to enable Youth and Wanita chiefs, as well as those holding ministerial positions to be automatically included in the council.

In December 2009, Liow and 12 other CC members including vice-president Tan Kok Hong, Deputy Higher Education Minister Dr Hou Kok Chung and Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Wee Jeck Seng submitted undated resignation letters to the party's secretary-general.

Under the party's constitution, at least two-thirds, or 21 of the 31 elected CC members, must resign for re-election to be called.

Wonders....
Can't these people wait and work together for the people, for the rakyat and maybe, for the Chinese? Must they do this to create fractions? If one cannot work with someone WITHIN the party, how can he works with someone OUTSIDE the party? Wonders......

Liow opens new battlefront at AGM

Giam Say Khoon

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 23, 2010) : MCA vice-president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai's faction is staging another "battle" at the coming March 7 annual general meeting (AGM) by asking all central delegates to vote for fresh polls to resolve the leadership crisis.

Central Committee (CC) member and Serdang division chief Datuk Liew Yuen Keong and Padang Besar division chief Datuk Loh Yoon Foo, who are aligned to Liow, submitted a four-point resolution on behalf of the MCA integrity restoring task force, through 10 divisions.

Today is the last day for the delegates to submit their resolutions for the AGM.

Liow told theSun : "It is the right of the delegates to submit resolutions (through their divisions) and the party leadership has the responsibility to deal with the resolutions."

To a question, he said although the party leadership can choose to reject the resolution for delegates to vote for fresh polls, it must be answerable to the delegates and explain why it is rejected.

"The AGM will be the best avenue for all delegates to decide on the need for fresh polls as everyone is already there for the AGM. If the leadership does not want to include the resolution, the delegates can bring in up during the debate and question the leadership.

"They (the delegates) could also move an emergency motion to vote for fresh polls if there are enough delegates agreeing to do so," he added.

Liow reiterated that the demand for fresh polls was for the sake of the party and stressed that he would not hesitate to step down if party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and deputy president Datuk Seri Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek agreed to do so.

"Ong and Chua also have the responsibility to come out with a solution to end the crisis," he said.

Liew and Loh's resolutions are to:

> Dissolve the CC and hold fresh polls until the current term expires;

> Set up the Central Board of Trustee for a more professional and transparent management;

> Amend Article 46 of the party constitution so that Youth and Wanita chairmen and other ministerial post holders will be automatically included into the presidential council;

> Standardise the appointment and removal of executive office bearers like secretary-general, treasury-general, organising secretary and their deputies by the party president under the party constitution.

The 10 divisions they represent are Pasir Gudang, Tenggara, Bentong, Rasah, Bukit Gantang, Beluran, Padang Besar, Pagoh, Subang and Serdang.

Speaking to reporters after submitting the resolutions to the party secretariat, Liew said it is up to the party leadership to consider accepting the resolutions but refused to speculate what would happen if the leadership turned them down.

Liow's faction had tried to organise an emergency general meeting (EGM) on Nov 28 last year but the EGM was called off after the faction agreed to sit down and negotiate with Ong and Chua on the possibility of having fresh polls.

On Dec 15, Liow together with other 12 CC members had tendered their undated resignation letters to push for fresh polls but the attempt was a failure after failing to get two thirds of the CC members to resign for fresh polls as stipulated under the party constitution.

On Feb 2, Liow urged his supporters not to attend any party activities organised by Ong and Chua to pressure the party leadership to agree to fresh polls. - theSun

Wonder.....
You can't be a good leader, unless you are or can be a good follower yourself.... So who is the boss? And why can't these people follow the boss for the whole term and then set to kick him out if he has not done a good job?
Wonder what will happen if Liow and Loh were in Ipoh.... telling the MB what to do and come out with own resolutions? Funny buggers!

Ong: MCA has not forgotten Penang

By DERRICK VINESH

derrickvinesh@thestar.com.my

BUTTERWORTH: The MCA has not forgotten its responsibility towards Penang and its people despite losing all the seats that it contested in the state in the March 2008 general election, said party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.

He said the party has not lost faith in Penangites and was confident of winning their hearts back.

“The MCA will not step back and shirk its responsibility in Penang.

“Our aspiration to rise again is not built on a dream, but on proper planning, commitment and the drive to win back Penang for the Barisan Nasional,” he said at the state MCA Wanita and Youth wings’ joint Chinese New Year open house at the Chai Leng Park multipurpose hall in Prai last night.

Ong surpised guests when he greeted them on his feet. He had been wheelchair-bound since his operation on his heel tendon early this month.

He said with the MCA’s strong ties with other Barisan component parties, it would not be impossible for Barisan to wrest Penang from the Pakatan Rakyat.

Earlier, state Wanita MCA chief Tan Cheng Liang said the people should open their eyes and minds and not allow themselves to be fooled by Pakatan.

“Do not worship the Pakatan. It has made many blunders and has not delivered its promises despite ruling Penang for nearly two years,” she said.

Tan said Penangites should give the Barisan a chance to represent them in the next general election, as it had candidates of good quality who could speak up for them.

She said the Pakatan was not a good political role model, especially to the young.

“A good statesman would not take credit for something that was initiated by another person and will not blame his predecessor when he fails to achieve success,” she said.

State deputy MCA chief Eng Hiap Boon apologised on behalf of his chairman Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai for not being able to attend the event.

He said Liow, who is also MCA vice-president, had to attend another dinner function in Kuala Lumpur.

Wonder.....
Does this means that Liow has forgotten Penang and stay at Kuala Lumpur and why? To avoid the President or to lobby around for MCA Presidency/Deputy? Or was it arranged that OTK goes to Penang when Liow was not around to avoid fractions?

Two tigers in the Year of the Tiger

Opinion 2010-02-22 13:10

"I was wrong. I was foolish."

Accompanied by his mother, International golf player Eldrick Tont Woods, better known as Tiger Woods, has finally held a press conference to apologise to his family and fans for a series of sex scandals.

In sexually open societies like Europe countries and the United States, it has long been known to the world that many celebrities are actually committing adultery. Quoting Jackie Chan's words, Woods has just "made a mistake that all men in the world would make" just like Chan and Clinton. How could it cause an uproar to the world?

We should not take such scandals too seriously. After all, sex scandals involving celebrities can be heard almost everyday and the mass coverage of the media is just to meet the people's peeping desire. They will be save as long as they make a public apology like Jackie Chan, Clinton and MCA Deputy President Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek. Just be more careful if they wish to do it again next time.

It reminded me of another combative and infamous "tiger" - Tomoyuki Yamashita.

Who is Tomoyuki Yamashita? Anyone with a little knowledge of history should know that he was a horrible general of the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II with the nickname "The Tiger of Malaya".

In 1941, the Japanese Imperial Army led by Tomoyuki Yamashita spent only three months to storm and capture the whole Peninsular. Later, he commanded his army in Johor Bahru to cross the Straits of Johor and seized Singapore on 15 Feb. It was Chinese New Year at that time.

Under the bloody rule of Tomoyuki Yamashita, the brutal Japanese army killed without mercy. Malaya and Singapore people suffered a tragic period for three years and eight months.

But the invaders had come to no good end. The Japanese finally lost and surrendered while Tomoyuki Yamashita became a war criminal and was sentence to death in Philippines.

Tomoyuki Yamashita held a sword with his hands full of blood while Tiger woods holds a golf club with 12 beautiful women in his arms. They are figures of two different eras and they should be mutually irrelevant. However, both of them carry the nickname of "tiger" and they are inseparable from their mothers during their most distressed time.

Woods's wife Elin Nordegren did not show up for the press conference. The only person that did not leave him was his mother, who forever supports and be proud of him.

As for Tomoyuki Yamashita, people will always remember that on his way to the execution ground, he left his last words: "A person's character has been fixed by infant education of his mother. So please promote education for women, to grow good mothers up. That's my only wish for my mother country."

The two "tigers", who are inseparable from their mothers, have taught us a lesson in the Year of the Tiger. (By LIM MUN FAH/Translated by SOONG PHUI JEE/Sin Chew Daily)

Wonders.....
They have something in America - Tiger and Clinton - and we must have something in Malaysia. Proven! Malaysia Boleh when our Chua Soi Lek also have it. The Kiasu Singapore also adds another - Jack Neo... Bolehland..ss..
They have CHANGED with Obama elected as President.... so MCA also wants CHANGE. The question is... WHO can change?
So it was said that - it is ok to do wrong things and apologize? While CSL apologize once.... OTK apologized three times for being at helm during MCA crisis...

Najib "endorses" Liow? A yes-man be a party president, again? Ain't Chinese tired?

Source: http://www.malaysiakini.com/letters/124532

When the news came about "Najib endorses Liow" as in the news here - http://www.malaysiakini.com/letters/124532, my first thought was how MCA can allow another UMNO yes-man to lead the party?
