BUTTERWORTH: The MCA has not forgotten its responsibility towards Penang and its people despite losing all the seats that it contested in the state in the March 2008 general election, said party president Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat.
He said the party has not lost faith in Penangites and was confident of winning their hearts back.
“The MCA will not step back and shirk its responsibility in Penang.
“Our aspiration to rise again is not built on a dream, but on proper planning, commitment and the drive to win back Penang for the Barisan Nasional,” he said at the state MCA Wanita and Youth wings’ joint Chinese New Year open house at the Chai Leng Park multipurpose hall in Prai last night.
Ong surpised guests when he greeted them on his feet. He had been wheelchair-bound since his operation on his heel tendon early this month.
He said with the MCA’s strong ties with other Barisan component parties, it would not be impossible for Barisan to wrest Penang from the Pakatan Rakyat.
Earlier, state Wanita MCA chief Tan Cheng Liang said the people should open their eyes and minds and not allow themselves to be fooled by Pakatan.
“Do not worship the Pakatan. It has made many blunders and has not delivered its promises despite ruling Penang for nearly two years,” she said.
Tan said Penangites should give the Barisan a chance to represent them in the next general election, as it had candidates of good quality who could speak up for them.
She said the Pakatan was not a good political role model, especially to the young.
“A good statesman would not take credit for something that was initiated by another person and will not blame his predecessor when he fails to achieve success,” she said.
State deputy MCA chief Eng Hiap Boon apologised on behalf of his chairman Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai for not being able to attend the event.
He said Liow, who is also MCA vice-president, had to attend another dinner function in Kuala Lumpur.

Wonder.....
Does this means that Liow has forgotten Penang and stay at Kuala Lumpur and why? To avoid the President or to lobby around for MCA Presidency/Deputy? Or was it arranged that OTK goes to Penang when Liow was not around to avoid fractions?
