Straight answer could be himself.... but if Insider MCA is correct - he was used by the taiko of third force and when he knew he was being used, he retained his seat to oppose the results of the EGM

"Hey, everyone of you, listen up. This ointment is good for burns and all kinds of wounds...."

The MCA fresh polls look more and more like people selling ointments on the streets. They are busy bragging about themselves and use all kinds of tactics to promote themselves.

Some candidates printed T-shirts and banners or canvass through SMSs for votes. Party President Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat even starts his campaign across the nation on a van emblazoned with his election theme "Ong Tee Keat for President".

It is a party elections, not a general elections. Ong needs to meet the party's central delegates instead of roadside hawkers.

If it is a general elections, they can grab a chair from the van or just stand on it to immediately deliver a speech once they arrive at the markets. Is he planning to ask the central delegates to stand beside the van and wait for free ice-cream?

MCA has wasted a year to fight for power. If they still play tricks and gimmicks during the fresh polls, MCA will never improve. Leaders who are competing for high positions should bring up political platforms and conduct a high standard election campaign. The party crisis will never end if they keep splitting into factions and cooperating for personal interests.

If none of the media is willing to hold a debate, MCA must then hold debates for candidates competing for the party's presidency, deputy presidency and vice-presidencies. Through a live online broadcast, the central delegates and members can rate the candidates while the public may also get a clearer picture of the qualities of MCA leaders.

Although the party's constitution states that any Central Committee member or central delegate is qualified to contest for any position in the party, as the world's largest Chinese political party outside China and Taiwan, there should be certain criteria for candidates competing for the presidency of MCA. There should also be strict requirements for the president. If they elect another low quality president, it will be a shame for MCA, as well as Chinese.

Let me suggest a few requirements:

Highly educated and high wisdom: The country is in the political and economic transition period. The president should know not only how to deal with issues related to the Chinese community, but as well issues related to the country's politics and the world's economy.

If the president only knows how to quote famous words from Chinese novels, how is he going to discuss with the Prime Minister on national issues like imposing Goods and Services Tax (GST) and turning the country into a high-income economy? Majlis Perundingan NGO Melayu (MPM), formed by 76 Malay non-governmental organisations has requested the government to retain Malay privileges in the New Economic Model (NEM). Without high wisdom, how can he help BN to achieve the "1Malaysia" goal?

Leadership qualities: MCA is an "interest group". Instead of having a great ambition, many join the party to gain benefits. As they are interest-oriented, they split into factions and have internal fights. Therefore, the president must possess excellent leadership qualities. How can he unite the party if the president also joins the fight himself? They will have to suffer a great defeat in the general elections for sure.

Sincerity and credibility: A president will be charismatic only if he treats all with sincerity.

A leader must as well be consistent. He should not be inconsistent in any case including even if he is being betrayed.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 17 (Bernama) -- MCA Youth chief Datuk Dr Wee Ka Siong said today he respected the decision of former MCA president Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting to contest the presidency in the party elections on March 28.

He said Ka Ting was entitled to contest the post after having considered the views of various quarters, especially veteran delegates who had appealed to him to make a comeback to resolve the party's leadership crisis.

"Come March 28, every delegate has the responsibility to determine the MCA leadership that can unite the party, set a clear direction and bring victory to the party and the Barisan Nasional," he told reporters at the lobby of Parliament, here.

The deputy education minister said it was a test for the delegates to restore the party's image and credibility following the various events which had challenged the party leadership over the past one year.

"I know that the delegates are mature enough to make a wise decision," he said.

On another matter, Dr Wee expressed disappointment over the statement by party secretary-general Datuk Wong Foon Meng that two former Central Committee (CC) members Datuk Wong Mook Leong and Wong Nai Chee were ineligible to contest the elections.

He said this was contrary to the party constitution because Article 41 stated that no one could prohibit the re-election of any former CC member.

"How can we convince young people to join the party when candidates such as Wong (Nai Chee) are sidelined? I feel the decision is most saddening and the political ploy to oust them is not gentlemanly," he said.

Nai Chee and Mook Leong are among the 21 CC members who resigned en bloc this month, forcing the party to hold the elections.

Foon Meng had said in reply to a letter from Nai Chee seeking clarification on their status that they were ineligible to contest in accordance with Article 33 of the party constitution.

The article states that those eligible to contest were CC members, central delegates, elected representatives, state liaison committee chairmen and divisional chairmen. Foon Meng said Nai Chee and Mook Leong were not in any of these categories.

He left in style several years ago, but is it worthy for him now to jump into the battle field again?

Well, based on the reasoning of many people, Ka Ting is extremely unlikely to join in the race this time round.

On the same reasoning, no one would have anticipated that retired Michael Schumacher would be back on the F1 track again!

By the time Schuey announced his retirement in 2006, he was already the champion driver winning in the largest number of stops ever.

He bagged the utmost honours in racing sports as well as a sea of applauses and glories, a kind of feeling that would put easily anyone above the clouds.

After his retirement, Schuey became Ferrari's advisor and the "super manager" of Michelle Yeoh's prince charming Mr Jean Todt.

However, each time a race is on, he is seen gazing attentively one after another war machine whizzing past him.

The new champion, young British black driver Lewis Hamilton was good only for the go carts during Schuey's prime.

And the subsequent champion, also another Brit, was trailing far behind only years ago.

Schuey later took up the safe driving ambassadorship from the UN.

Which should have gone to the world body's secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, whose prudent approach behind the wheels shouldn't have made driving any safer.

Please, how on earth could anyone ever hire a driver seeing 200kph as slow warm-up to promote safe driving?

Retirement doesn't seem quite right for Schuey, and many of his fans want him out on the track again.

Deep inside him mutters a voice: We need a new battle!"

As such, at an advanced age of 41, Schuey is back, ready to face the gruesome challenges ahead.

Several days back, he failed to make it to the podium, ranking only sixth at Bahrain.

But that was his first race after an extended hiatus. And he was doing it for a new team.

Schuey still commands lots of expectations!

Back to our Ka Ting, I was thinking he shares some identical moods with the racing legend at this very instant.

MCA's problems are a whole lot more intricate than those of F1 racing.

As an ex-helmsman, he would be seen as indifferent if he embraces a "none-of-my-business" attitude.

Sure enough, Ka Ting might not have the sure-win confidence, but since the decision has been made, the outcome should not have been an issue to him anymore.

If he loses the game, at least he has put in the effort. But if he wins, there's a whole new world awaiting him.

Ong Ka Ting to contest MCA presidency

KUALA LUMPUR, March 16 (Bernama) -- Former MCA president Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting announced today that he would contest the MCA presidency against incumbent Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat in the party's fresh polls on March 28.
Confirming speculations that he would make a comeback, Ong said he received many calls from party delegates, veterans and members across the country who communicated to him through various media asking him to return and run for the presidency.
"To all these members who care and love the party, I say I hear you, loud and clear.
"I would therefore, like to announce my candidacy for the MCA presidency in the coming party elections," he said in a statement issued here today.
Explaining his decision, Ong said as the immediate past president, it was no secret that the current state of affairs in the party had deeply saddened him because when he announced on June 28, 2008 that he would not seek a re-election of the presidency, he thought he would leave the party in safe and united hands.
"To my great dismay, this not only turned out to be otherwise, but also, the good values of healthy political culture, good governance and collective leadership, practised and advocated by my team during my presidency, have become almost entirely a thing of the past as soon as I retired," he said.
Ong, who is former Housing and Local Government Minister said when he took over the party's leadership in May 2003 during a tumultuous period of internal strife, one of his immediate tasks was to amend the party constitution to limit the president's term to only three years.
Similarly, he said his team had also formulated strict financial management system including budgetary framework in which the party's assets were managed.
"Most of all, the party was made debt free after having fully settled our debts during my presidency.
"Sadly, in the last one year or so, after putting our constitution to a severe test, it has revealed various weaknesses in the light of excessive presidential powers and the abrogation of the general assembly as the supreme body of our party," he said.
Therefore, Ong said there was an urgent need for these weaknesses to be quickly addressed and rectified.
In the statement, he also said that the current serious factional in-fighting among party leaders had not only brought shame to the party, but also many Malaysians particularly the Chinese community who are the supporters of the party.
He said during the period of in-fighting, precious time had been lost which could have been better spent to rebuild and regain the trust of Malaysians for the party after a dismal performance in the last general election.
"If this in-fighting continues, MCA will indeed in no time become totally irrelevant, leading to its ultimate demise," Ong said.
By contesting in the party's fresh polls on March 28, Ong also created a political history as it would be the first time that a former party president has come out from retirement to contest the top party post.

John Maxwell in his book Irrefutable Laws of Leadership says.... a good leader is a leader of leader of leader of leader......
If you leave in good hands - then you will not need to make a come back. It is your failure, alright, now it seems you are coming back to repair the pot but remember to leave to good hands.
Sometimes is just difficult, isn't it? If you train someone and leave a party to him/her, you are accused of cronism. If you do not, then you do not have leadership... OK be liberal and we'll watch the drama begins.

Is it really as simple as that?

MCA President Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said he would defend his post to "carry out the unfinished reform" while former President Tan Seri Ong Ka Ting hinted that he would be "duty-bound".
Former Vice-President Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai is still observing and former Deputy President is planning without taking any action.
MCA's chaos has not been solved yet. Instead, it has been caught in more and more factional deadlocks. Such a traumatic boat has sailed to the edge of a cliff.
Who will lead MCA? The Chinese community is no longer interested in the question.
However, as a half-century-old party, MCA cannot avoid the question.
MCA really needs to save itself when Pakatan Rakyat is rising and the Chinese community is giving up hope. However, where is the "saviour" that can overturn the situation of MCA?
Some people said that MCA has lost its direction after the death of Tun Tan Cheng Lock. There are only "administrators" but no "leader" in MCA since then.
Some even criticised more harshly by saying that most of the MCA leaders cannot even play the "administrator" role well, let alone to run the country.
However, MCA must have a helmsman. Party members must keep their eyes wide open and make a painful decision. Even though they have to cast their votes with tears, they still have to elect one (if any) leader that they think is able to lead MCA out of the crisis and revive the party.
I am not a MCA member. I am not eligible and do not even bother to deeply think about it. I am more concerned and worried about the country. We have a lot of political parties and politicians but what are they actually thinking? Are they prioritising the country's affairs? Are they committed to implement the idea of democracy? Or have they been corrupted by the temptation of power and are indulged in power fighting?
The people can tolerate various chaoses in PKR as they think it is only a new party which has just been set up10 years ago. Thus, it should be given time to grow. But MCA has been established for 61 years. If it is still unable to become mature after 61 years and if it still cannot learn a lesson from the political tsunami during the 8 March general elections, then there is only one path left for MCA, that is: to keep on sinking!
MCA members and leaders should clearly understand that MCA can only rely on its self-reflection and reform to revive.
The problem is, MCA has wasted two years time without carrying out a reflection. It has run out of track and caught in an endless internal friction.
I believe that MCA members are very anxious now as they cannot afford choosing a wrong leader but they do not have much choices.
I have once read a book. The book made a request "as simple as": "The job of a leader is to achieve the goal of promoting public interests. Anyone can take the position but the only criterion is: we should be happier when he steps down compared to the time when he takes the office."

Two tigers in the Year of the Tiger

Accompanied by his mother, International golf player Eldrick Tont Woods, better known as Tiger Woods, has finally held a press conference to apologise to his family and fans for a series of sex scandals.

In sexually open societies like Europe countries and the United States, it has long been known to the world that many celebrities are actually committing adultery. Quoting Jackie Chan's words, Woods has just "made a mistake that all men in the world would make" just like Chan and Clinton. How could it cause an uproar to the world?

We should not take such scandals too seriously. After all, sex scandals involving celebrities can be heard almost everyday and the mass coverage of the media is just to meet the people's peeping desire. They will be save as long as they make a public apology like Jackie Chan, Clinton and MCA Deputy President Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek. Just be more careful if they wish to do it again next time.

It reminded me of another combative and infamous "tiger" - Tomoyuki Yamashita.

Who is Tomoyuki Yamashita? Anyone with a little knowledge of history should know that he was a horrible general of the Japanese Imperial Army during World War II with the nickname "The Tiger of Malaya".

In 1941, the Japanese Imperial Army led by Tomoyuki Yamashita spent only three months to storm and capture the whole Peninsular. Later, he commanded his army in Johor Bahru to cross the Straits of Johor and seized Singapore on 15 Feb. It was Chinese New Year at that time.

Under the bloody rule of Tomoyuki Yamashita, the brutal Japanese army killed without mercy. Malaya and Singapore people suffered a tragic period for three years and eight months.

But the invaders had come to no good end. The Japanese finally lost and surrendered while Tomoyuki Yamashita became a war criminal and was sentence to death in Philippines.

Tomoyuki Yamashita held a sword with his hands full of blood while Tiger woods holds a golf club with 12 beautiful women in his arms. They are figures of two different eras and they should be mutually irrelevant. However, both of them carry the nickname of "tiger" and they are inseparable from their mothers during their most distressed time.

Woods's wife Elin Nordegren did not show up for the press conference. The only person that did not leave him was his mother, who forever supports and be proud of him.

As for Tomoyuki Yamashita, people will always remember that on his way to the execution ground, he left his last words: "A person's character has been fixed by infant education of his mother. So please promote education for women, to grow good mothers up. That's my only wish for my mother country."

They have CHANGED with Obama elected as President.... so MCA also wants CHANGE. The question is... WHO can change? 

So it was said that - it is ok to do wrong things and apologize? While CSL apologize once.... OTK apologized three times for being at helm during MCA crisis...
