Kopitiam Talks - MCA faces battle of presidents

KUALA LUMPUR - Former Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) president Ong Ka Ting (picture) announced yesterday he would contest the post again, setting the stage for a possible three-corner fight in the March 28 party polls

Mr Ong, who led the MCA from 2003 to 2008, said his decision to contest in the polls was a result of calls from various quarters within the party for him to return to save the party that is facing infighting among its leaders.

In recent weeks, only Mr Ong confirmed he would defend his post, raising hopes that other potential challengers would allow him to retain the presidency without further infighting.

However, the former MCA president's announcement yesterday triggers the possibility of a three-way fight for the presidency, because the party's No 2 leader, Dr Chua Soi Lek, might also make a bid for the top post.

Two-thirds of the MCA's leaders quit their posts earlier this month to pave the way for party elections. AP

Kopitiam Talks........

**all hearsay below**

So now... OTK announces a fight.... then OKT came in to be the "savior"....

Will CSL join in a three-corner fight - endangering his political position or will he go for number 2 - a choice which could no longer be a choice because by resigning the number 2 post citing he can't work with OTK means that he has to take the number 1 post. If OTK was elected President and he the Deputy, then how to work together? Back to square one!
Interestingly, it was said that Lim Ah Lek (Team B leader) was the one urging OKT to fight. One may remember that OTK was align with Team B while OKT was actually aligned with Team A....
So... kopitiam talks said that OKT returns to be the "savior" - not for the party but for OTK because OKT returns should help destroy the political dream of CSL.....
